Despite what may be posted here, I honestly don't advocate exclusively downloading music without giving back to the artists. They put a lot of time and money into their work and I completely understand that. What I do advocate is trying before buying which is sometimes not possible to do thoroughly with 30-second clips or a song or two from an official site. That's the space that I'm trying to fill. I'm sure a lot of you, like me, don't have the money to invest in an artist you haven't thoroughly evaluated first. I love the feeling of holding a brand new CD in my hands, something tangible, complete with album art and liner notes, but more importantly, I love the feeling of supporting an artist whose music I truly admire. I hope anyone reading this feels the same way and thinks about purchasing the music you come to discover here. I can't really do much about it if you don't, but I can try to persuade you anyway.

For all links, change xx to tt.

A few notes about the tags:

Each post is tagged according to the artist or band it contains music by, so if you're looking for someone specific, it's probably easiest to go straight to the tags page and see if they're in the list.

If you find a post tagged with "!dead links" and you really want a song that was in it, I can probably upload it for you again if you ask nicely.

Also, I've tagged most of the posts with category tags to make it easier to browse through older posts, especially if you're looking for a certain one. For convenience, here's the rundown:

All I have left to say is that I hope you enjoy the music I post here. If you do, it would be a very kind gesture to leave a short thank you comment. Being greedy and rude isn't very cool. I'd also love it if you added me as a friend - I promise I don't bite and that way, it's easier to stay up-to-date on the latest posts. Now, let's get on to more music!

Ohmygosh, wow! I stumbled upon your journal from Google and I am SO glad I did - you seem SO nice and we have such similar musical tastes! (Rilo Kiley = teh win. ♥) I'm friending you so I can see more updates. Thanks! :D

Aww... this comment made me smile, hehe. :)

It's cool that you found me through Google! Now I know I don't only have to rely on my mediocre advertising skills to get people to visit. :P

Anyway, thanks for stopping and commenting! And is it alright if I friend you back? I like to be mutual with those things.

Oh, definitely. ^^ I love to be mutual as well. xD

I've downloaded some of your stuff over at pretty_music, but this post ROCKS. Thank you so much! I'm friending you if that's cool :)

You're welcome! And of course that's cool. :) I'll friend you, too.

Seriously, this list is amazing. You have such great taste in music, I can't believe I didn't think to visit your journal sooner. I love that you included a ton of free and legal downloads, and I agree 100% about the satisfaction of a tangible CD instead of a folder of files on a computer.

I've also switched from sendspace and am currently thinking about using mediafire, but box.net is also a site I'm considering.

Anyway, all this is to say I'm friending you (you seem like a really great person) and I'm snagging quite a few albums/songs. Thanks!

Hello there! :) Getting comments like this makes me all warm and fuzzy inside, hehe. It looks like we are musically similar in many ways.

And about uploading... I stick to sendspace for full albums and stuff I don't mind expiring like requests, but box.net is definitely good if you want your links to last awhile (possibly forever? I'm not sure). I tried to upload at mediafire once and it was all messed up, so I kinda gave up, haha... though downloading from there is probably the best for me so maybe it was just a one time thing. :P

Please take the CBB downloads down.

Hey,

This is Lindsay from CBB. I would really appreciate it if you could take down the CBB downloads you have up. I really like sharing, too! and I really appreciate your interest in the music. But the thing is, the new album is not out yet, and I want it to be special. I want people to listen to it and feel really, really good about hearing it all for the first time.

It's also nice to be able to make some money for CD sales. CD sales equal money to tour, equal money for merchandise, and even a little bit on the side for me to live and pay rent.

I don't know how you got the tracks, but I am nervous that they are leaking all over and I would appreciate it if you could pass this message on to others.

You don't have to take West Coast Lights down, because that was never released. But please, it is important that the others don't stay up.

Thanks
Lindsay

Re: Please take the CBB downloads down.

Lindsay,

I'm very sorry. I totally get where you're coming from and I'll take the links down right now. I purchased your album and was just so excited in discovering your music, I probably acted before thinking it through entirely and thought it would be okay to put up just a few songs to encourage other people to buy it. Unfortunately, there are probably more people who download and buy nothing than people like me who download but buy things whenever they can and I guess I thought that since I felt such a strong reaction when I first heard your music that I bought it instantly, other people would too.

I just wanted to let you know that I definitely didn't mean to harm you in any way, quite the contrary, and I hope you don't take me making a stupid mistake too personally. I'm looking very much forward to your new album and I will be buying it whenever it comes out. I'm just a huge fan of yours who was so eager to share your music, I got a little overzealous about it. And I apologize for that.

hi shannon,

thanks for taking the songs down, i really appreciate it. let all of your friends and followers know that the new album will be out july 31st!! so not much more waiting. then i will be doing a short tour to support the album.

I appreciate you wanting to spread the gospel" so to speak; it sure does lead to more fans and more friends. unfortunately, most people just download, which sucks! but it's life. sigh, the internet is lame for this reason, i suppose.

thanks again, maybe i'll see you at a show some day!
have a good wednesday.

Hey Lindsay!

It's great to know that the album is coming out soon! I can't wait for it and when the time comes, I'll make sure to spread the word, most definitely. Thanks for understanding my intentions. And keep up the great music! :)

Aww, thank you! That means so much to me. :)

This post has made my day. I came across it through google on the hunt for Amanda Palmer's cover on "I will follow you into the dark." Thank you so much for the music. Im usually left wanting more when i sample music through sound clips but this is great! I added you as a friend and hope you'll add me back. THANK YOU once again. Have a beautiful day!!!

Need to thank you for your journal with your posts, and let you (and perhaps others) know that because of your posts, I have purchased the following:

~Concert tickets to Rilo Kiley (one for me, one for a friend, also new to Rilo)
~One Rilo Kiley album, plus more to follow, without doubt
~One Tegan and Sarah album
~One CocoRosie album
~One Eisley album

I would have purchased concert tickets for Tegan and Sarah, but their show is late on a weeknight, and I just can't do that anymore and be of any use at work the next day. Still considering other albums/concerts. Thanks much for your efforts!

Re: gratitude and support

Oh, wow.

I don't even know what to say to that except that it makes me indescribably happy. I sometimes feel discouraged when I get no replies to a post but then I'll get a comment like this every once in awhile and it completely makes my day. I'm so passionate about music and I love to share it with others and to see that my posts influenced you so much is mindblowing. It's especially nice to see that you were persuaded to actually buy CDs and concert tickets, since it seems fewer and fewer people want to spend money on music these days and that was one of the main reasons I started this - to give people a taste that will hopefully get them to invest in more. And, I have to say, it's awesome to see you've become such a Rilo Kiley fan since they're my favorite band and I'm always afraid my constant gushing will annoy people more than it will persuade them to listen. :P

Anyway, thank you so much for your kind words! Things like that inspire me to keep this thing going.

hello!
i just found your journal through last.fm and you sound awesome :D.
i absolutely love sharing music with people, it's nice to see someone else doing the same. i'd love to be friends, if you want =)

Hey, of course I'd love to be friends! Thanks for the comment. :)

I really like your writing style, mixes and taste in music, so I'm adding you :)

Thanks! :D I added you back.

Breakable Boys & Girls

Thank you so much! Im living for this playlist right now! You have such amazing taste in music! Have a wonderful week!

I agree wiht you. The problem with music (especially the physical media) is not easy to find. Sometimes you have to order abroad to get a copy.Another sad thing is the fact that this is not possible for non credit card users.

Hi. I'm a moderator at pretty_music and downloaded some stuff from you there in the past. I looked at your profile earlier today and noticed that it's a music blog, so I added it and plan to look it over in the next couple weeks. You look to have great taste in music.

Hi, thanks! I hope you can find something new you like. :)

P.S. I'm uploading those Carissa's Wierd albums for you now and I'll reply to your comment there with the links in a few hours.

Hi there! I was watching Men in Trees and heard a song I really dug and while searching for the lyrics I came across a page of yours (the song was The News From Your Bed by Bishop Allen). I am so glad I stumbled across your LJ... very cool! I'm sure I'll have fun exploring your pages and seeing a lot of old favourites put into cool mixes and finding some new favourites on the way. Thanks a lot!

Hi, thanks, I hope you find some new things to like! :)

Thanks for the comment! Your podcast looks pretty interesting; I'll make sure to check it out more later. :)

I watched the film to your icon yesterday. As soon as the shot came on, I was like "I've seen that before!" Sebastian <3

Oh, awesome! I am extremely obsessed with Ben Whishaw, the actor who played him, in general now. He is just terribly adorable.

Thanks for your share! very impressive!

Great site, very impressive.
